In 2003 I decided to reunite with an amazing artist named Makinto. We both met while living in Paris, France and the synergy between us is astounding! Makinto’s ancestry hails from Liberia, West Africa and Germany. He is an extraordinary pianist, flautist, percussionist, and composer/arranger. In 1989 I hired Makinto to perform with my band The Talib Kibwe Odyssey for a USIA State Department Tour of 10 countries in East Africa and in 1990 10 countries in West Africa. Also in 1990 we toured Morocco and these engagements solidified our musical partnership. During 2003 I decided to resurrect our band and record a project indicative of the music we performed in Africa, hence the recording T.K.Blue “Rhythm In Blue” The landscape for releasing new projects was changing rapidly during this time period and much to the disadvantage of the artist. Record deals were becoming obsolete and recouping monies spent on recordings were fast becoming a losing proposition.
This was the beginning of my own record label entitled JAJA Records and it allowed me full control of what music to disseminate and how my story can be told and documented unequivocally. To date, I have 6 titles on JAJA Records and all can be purchased through my website:
